Shrine (Makam) of Hallac-ı Mansur

The shrine stands at the junction of the Hamzakoy road and the road branching off to the lighthouse in Gallipoli (Gelibolu). Inside the tomb there are two graves, and who they belong to is not known for certain; one of them is a woman's. In the past, a cotton-carder's bow and mallet are said to have hung on the wall of the tomb. Long neglected, the tomb was repaired in 1971 and brought to its present condition. Hallac-ı Mansur was put to death in Baghdad because of his distinctive beliefs within Islam, and his tomb is in Baghdad. However, there are shrines (makam) dedicated to Hallac-ı Mansur in various places, and the one in Gallipoli is one of seven.
